The trouble is, if you hide (ALT-click or CMD-H), you hide all windows of that application. You probably don't want to do that, just to minimize the current window. In OS X you don't have the Title Bar, with an item for each open window (eg. 3 different items for 3 windows of the MS Word) - but instead, an indicator for applications that have open windows, but nothing indicates how many. Minimizing apps to the right edge of the dock is fine, but it can quickly become crowded with minimized windows. To make applications minimize to their Dock icon, first open System Preferences and click “Dock”. On the Dock preferences, check the box next to “Minimize windows into application icon”. Note: I used the Rocket app as an example in my pictures, but only because I was removing an earlier version. I love Rocket and would never delete it (it emojifies your Mac!). It’s easy to set applications to open automatically when OS X is started up. Simply right click on the app when it’s in your dock and choose Options > Open At Login.
